Changelog
Every release of AntiFind, newest first.
1.1.0 October 26, 2026
- Play videos and music, and open PDFs and other documents, from Linux partitions on Windows and from Windows partitions on Linux, without mounting them. Videos and music stream as they play; documents open from a temporary copy.
Sound and video
- Quick Look plays sound everywhere: MP3, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, Ogg Vorbis, Opus, Apple Lossless (ALAC) in .m4a, and the sound of .mka and .webm files, with play, pause, a seek bar and the time. On Windows it also plays the sound of MP4, M4A and MOV files through the decoders Windows already has.
- Quick Look plays videos in VP8 and VP9 WebM, Matroska (.mkv) and AVI, with their sound in step. On Windows it also plays MP4, MOV and other formats through the video and sound decoders Windows has.
- A seek shows the exact frame at that time; the full stop and comma keys step one frame forward or back.
- A double click on a video shows it full screen without borders; another double click or Esc brings the window back. Space plays and pauses.
- Subtitles show over the video: the file's own SRT, WebVTT or ASS track, a subtitle file beside the video (such as film.srt or film.en.vtt), and Blu-ray picture subtitles (PGS). ASS subtitles keep their positions, sizes, colours and outlines.
- Settings, Startup and tray: choose the sound output, the system's default or any output the computer has. The change applies at once, also to a sound that is playing.
- Thumbnails show the cover picture a sound or video file carries. A video without one shows a frame from a tenth of the way in; a sound file without a cover shows its waveform. The side panel shows a file's length and its picture and sound details.
Tamper watch
- New page, Tamper watch (also on the command line as antifind tamper): take a baseline of the folders attackers usually change, then check what is new, changed or gone since. A new set-uid file or a new file in a folder of programs is marked, and an optional notice tells you at once when a watched file changes. A check never changes anything.
- antifind tamper check --json gives one line per difference, for scripts.
Rules
- Rules can run on a timer: at times of day, on chosen days, or every N minutes, and can catch up a missed run.
- New rule action, Convert with AntiPDF: a new scan in a folder becomes a searchable PDF, saved in a folder you choose. It is offered when AntiPDF is installed.
Search and the app
- antifind grep searches file contents from the command line, for scripts and AI assistants.
- Content search reads scanned pages (OCR) when you switch it on, in folders you choose; it is off by default. It also reads archives (zip, RAR, 7z, tar) and Outlook .msg mail.
- The app can draw with Vulkan, OpenGL or without the graphics card (Settings, Appearance, Drawing).
- A soft shadow marks what is selected, with a choice of Off, Faint, Soft or Lifted. The Voidlight theme is among the dark themes.
- The Live view keeps rows in sight in their place, and a burst of changes arrives as one block. Names and folders in the results wrap onto two lines instead of being cut.
- Quick Look lists a folder without opening its files, and never lists a folder that is only in the cloud.
Fixes
- Times from before the clocks went back are no longer an hour off.
- On Linux, an action that opens a program (open, AntiPDF, AntiMail) is no longer stopped as it starts.
- A rule with only a timer no longer stops the rules list from showing.
- Undoing a delete is faster when the Recycle Bin is full.
- Crash reports now cover the service and the content indexer.
- A rule whose search uses | (or) acts only on files inside its own folders.
- Only the account that entered the key, or an administrator (root on Linux), can remove the licence from a computer. A key entered before 1.1.0 can be removed by any account until it is entered again.
- A Convert rule sends its files to AntiPDF, which must have AntiFind turned on under Preferences, Automation. A file that is only in the cloud is never sent.
- Damaged sound, video and subtitle files no longer make AntiFind stop or use very large amounts of memory.
- On Debian and Ubuntu, reinstalling AntiFind after removing it starts the service again.
1.0.5 October 22, 2026
- The setting for starting AntiFind at sign-in names Windows only on Windows.
- On Windows, the content indexer runs without a console window.
- On Linux, the short command
afis installed besideantifind, so it works in every shell (bash, zsh, fish and others).
1.0.4 October 22, 2026
- When the desktop app stops unexpectedly, it saves a crash report. The report holds the AntiFind and system versions, the graphics card, the error, where it happened, and the end of the session log (on Windows also a minidump). The reports are in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\AntiFind\crashes(Linux:~/.local/state/antifind/crashes). - At the next start, AntiFind offers to send the newest report by e-mail to hello@antisoftworks.com. Nothing is sent without your yes. The offer opens the e-mail and the folder with the full report, so you can read it first.
- The disk searches now appear in the app.
- Menus close when you click anywhere outside them.
- The saved-searches box shows its scroll bar.
1.0.3 October 22, 2026
- The content index runs without the desktop app.
antifind content addandantifind content enablestart the indexer and keep it running at every login.antifind content disablestops it.antifind --help --jsonlists the content commands and thecontent:filter. - Licence keys can be entered without administrator rights. The service checks the key itself, so
antifind --licence KEYand the app work from an ordinary terminal. The app shows Licensed once the service has taken the key, and it sends a saved key to the service again at start. - New built-in searches
@linux-disks,@mac-disksand@windows-disksfind every file on the disks of those systems. Linux disks: ext2, ext3, ext4, btrfs, XFS, F2FS, bcachefs and ZFS. Mac disks: APFS and HFS+. Windows disks: NTFS, FAT and exFAT. The app lists each search only where such a disk exists. - The content indexer saves its status file only when something has changed, and at most every 5 seconds while it works.
af --watch, Live and Changes receive fewer updates. - Watch, live, changes and history skip AntiFind's own data folders (
%LOCALAPPDATA%\AntiFind,%APPDATA%\AntiFind,%ProgramData%\AntiFind; on Linux~/.local/share/antifind,~/.config/antifind,~/.cache/antifind,/var/lib/antifind). They stay searchable by name. antifind --linux-snapshots on(administrator) indexes btrfs, APFS and ZFS snapshots on Windows, andoffstops that. The choice is saved in the service's settings, and turning it on builds a new index. Withoutonoroff, the command shows the current setting.--yesand--attrsappear in--help,--help --jsonand the man page. The man page also lists--version. On Windows, the built-in list shows only the searches that work there.
1.0.2 October 21, 2026
- On Linux, disks that are not mounted are searched too. AntiFind reads them straight from the device and never writes to them. It reads NTFS, FAT, exFAT, HFS+, APFS, ext2/3/4, XFS, btrfs, F2FS and bcachefs, and lists each volume as Windows1, Mac1 or Linux1, with its label and size.
- Only root and members of disk, wheel or sudo see the names on those disks.
- A disk that is mounted is searched as a mount. When it is unmounted, it is read straight from the device again, and no file is listed twice.
antifind --extract PATH DESTcopies a file out of a disk that is not mounted.antifind --extractstops when the destination already exists. Add--yesto replace it.antifindd --no-rawturns off reading disks that are not mounted.--raw-removablealso reads removable media, and--raw DEVreads one device only.- On Windows, administrators see the files on Linux and Mac disks without opening an elevated window. Other users of the computer do not see them.
- On Windows, name such a disk as a folder to search inside it, for example
af report Linux2.
1.0.1 October 21, 2026
- In the desktop app, Clear empties the recent searches list, and clicking a recent search runs it again.
- Moving a result to the Recycle Bin or the trash, or deleting it permanently, takes it out of the results at once, in the list and in the thumbnail view.
- The menu on a thumbnail works like the menu in the list, with all its items and the menu key.
- Ctrl+Z after moving files to the Recycle Bin or the trash brings them back, and they show in the results again.
1.0.0 October 21, 2026
- A background service, antifindd, keeps every file name in memory, reads btrfs directly, scans every other filesystem in parallel, and follows changes as they happen.
- The index is saved, loaded at start, and refreshed in the background.
- During the first index, searches answer from the filesystems already indexed.
- Names match across scripts. Accents match by default: "cafe" finds "café" and "uber" finds "über". Composed and decomposed letters, ligatures, ß, æ, œ, the Turkic i family, final sigma, and wide and half-width forms all match.
accents:,noaccents:,--accentsand--no-accentschange this, and a word typed with an accent lists the exact matches first. antifind: substring, wildcard and regular expression search; filters for path, extension, size, dates, type, owner, group, permissions, depth, empty folders, mount and filesystem;|,!and< >groups; saved queries (@name).- Output as paths,
--long,--json,-0,--countand--format; colour in the terminal. --watchand--since: a live stream and a replay of recent changes.antifind du: folder sizes from the index.--statusshows the index, and--reindexrebuilds it.- Each user sees only the files they could list, in results, counts, changes and folder sizes.
- Man pages and shell completions for bash, zsh and fish.
- A client library for other programs.
- The simple command line,
antifind PATTERN [FOLDER...], takes.and relative folders from the current folder. Options include-e,-t,-S,--changed,--changed-before,-d,-i,-x(--skipmount) and-a(--all). - Query words work as advanced queries, and also take
under:,skipmount:andscope:.--print-queryshows the words a command line makes. --sorthas only a long form. Case-sensitive matching is--case-sensitive, and-iignores case, which is the default. An unknown option stops with an error.- By default, a search covers the system disk and the mounts on the same disk.
-acovers every indexed filesystem, and a named folder is always searched.--statuslists both, and--watch,--sinceandantifind dufollow the same rule.antifind dualso works on its own. - Shell integration for zsh and bash makes
antifind *.pdf .work unquoted, andafworks as a short name. A pattern the shell has already expanded is recognised and reported.
This is the first release. It is available for Linux (.deb, Arch, apt and pacman repositories) and Windows (Microsoft Store).
